Becoming a Member
The club seeks to attract members from the community who value the benefits to be derived from Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service and who are willing to devote time and effort each year to support club programs and activities. Membership dues are nominal with the major portion going to cover the cost of the monthly dinner meetings.

Ruritan Club Constitution Bylaws on Membership
ARTICLE IV. Membership
Section A. It is recommended that club membership be composed of people representing a cross-section of the community.
Section B. Any person of good moral character and reputation shall be eligible for club membership.
Section C. There are three kinds of membership, namely: active, honorary, and associate members.
Section D. Club membership may be acquired only by invitation, transfer or reinstatement.
Section E. Any member of this club may present the name of a proposed member to the president. The president shall present the name of the proposed member to the Board of Directors and upon majority approval, the name shall be submitted to the club. Upon approval of a 2/3 vote the person shall become a member of that club providing a quorum is present.
Committees
STANDING
Enhance the internal workings of the Club.
Finance
Ensure that the club operates on a sound financial basis. Propose practical fundraising methods and projects to meet the club’s financial needs.
Membership
The focus is on recruiting new members, retaining current members, and regaining past members.
Fellowship
Responsible for promoting fellowship among members, prospective members, and visitors. This committee organizes entertaining activities for members, their families, and the community when sponsoring a community service project.
Program & Entertainment
Charged with preparing and arranging programs or entertainment for all meetings. The Committee functions at all meetings and affects all members of the club.
Public Relations
To establish an effective internal and external public relations program involving the club and the community.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Outreach, involvement, and interaction with the public in a manner that improves the community.
Community Engagement (& Scholarship)
Assists in providing and maintaining economic stability and growth in production, commerce, and services in the community. Areas for consideration include Agriculture, Industry Services, Trades and Professions. (Interacts with Fauquier High School for Club-provided scholarships.)
Public Service
Monitors the services provided by governmental, corporate, and volunteer agencies. Areas for consideration include Water, Electrical, Gas Supply, Law Enforcement, Buildings, Fire and Rescue Squads, Transportation Facilities, Solid Waste, Telephone and T.V., Cable, Waste Disposal, Cell Service.
Social Development
Ensures that the community has facilities and services which provide for the well-being and development of all people with special concern for those with unusual needs.
Environmental
Improves the environment and conserve natural resources in the community. The areas for consideration include Land/Water/Air Pollution, Community Beautification, Conservation of Wildlife, Soil and Water Conservation, Rodent and Pest Control.
Citizenship & Patriotism
Foster love of our country and pride in being a citizen by promoting activities and philosophies which enable each of us to become more aware of our unique rights and responsibilities which are ours because we are Americans. The areas for consideration include Community Pride, Holiday Observation, Voter Registration, Armed Forces, Veterans Day, Flag Display.
